Zapotal Beach Costa Rica is a remote and beautiful light gray sand beach with calm waters, located in the Guanacaste province. It is a very quiet beach, ideal for a relaxing vacation, away from city noise, perfect to practice some water sports such as diving, snorkeling or fishing. The beach has clear waters with shallow depths that allow you to swim without problems.
You can also rent a boat and explore the nearby islands or do some fishing on the banks of Playa Zapotal . The beach is located at kilometer 17 of highway 21 that connects Liberia with Playa Hermosa and Santa Cruz. In addition to its beautiful landscape, it is worth visiting this place because it has a nice restaurant where you can taste typical dishes of Costa Rica such as gallo pinto (rice and beans), fish soup or fried chicken.

Getting to Zapotal Beach when departing From San José
Take the Pan-American highway north until you reach Puntarenas, then follow this road until you reach Liberia. In Liberia, turn right.onto the road to Sardinal, which is about eight kilometers (five miles) away. Take this road for about 15 minutes until you reach Zapotal beach parking lot. This route takes 4 to 5 hours from San José. breathtaking.
Getting to Zapotal Beach when departing From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
When departing from Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR), drive south to Santa Cruz. Take the exit onto Sardinal, which will be on your right. Continue along this road for about 12 miles until you reach Zapotal Beach.
Arriving to Playa Zapotal when traveling by bus:
There's is no direct bus to Playa Zapotal, but you can take a bus from San José to Liberia. This ride will take about 5 hours . Then you should take another bus from Liberia to Sardinal. From Sardinal you can call for a taxi or, Uber or walk about 20 km (12 miles) to Zapotal beach.
Arriving to Playa Zapotal when traveling by plane:
Or you can fly out of Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose to the Daniel Oduber Airport at Liberia. There are several airlines that offer daily flights. Once you arrive at Liberia's airport, you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Zapotal beach, which takes about 1.5 hours.
