Discover the easy ways to get to Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica - a popular beach destination in Guanacaste

Driving from San José: Take the highway north to Puntarenas, then continue on to Liberia until you reach Belen. Turn right and continue on the road until you reach Huacas. From there, take a right turn towards Tamarindo for 8 km (5 miles), then turn right again and follow the road for 4 km (2.5 miles) until you reach Playa Tamarindo. This route takes about 4 hours in total.

From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR): Drive south until you reach Belen, then turn right and continue on the road until you reach Huacas. From there, take a right turn towards Tamarindo for 8 km (5 miles), then turn right again and follow the road for 4 km (2.5 miles) until you reach Playa Tamarindo.

Going by bus to Playa Tamarindo:

Take a bus from the route San Jose Tamarindo, which takes 4 to 5 hours (Alfaro-Tracopa, 2222-2666). It's recommended to buy the ticket a day earlier to ensure a seat.

Flying to Tamarindo:

Take a flight from Juan Santamaria Airport to the Tamarindo airport with Sansa or Nature Air airlines. From there, rent a car or take a taxi to Playa Tamarindo, which takes about 5 minutes.
