What to expect from Carrillo beach

Carrillo is a relaxed seaside village that is similar to Samara but on a smaller scale. This beach, which boasts amazing vistas and sunsets, is a popular hangout for foreigners and ticos alike, and is considered one of Costa Rica's best. 

Carrillo's long beach is surrounded by coconut palms, forested hills, and cliffs in its natural state. This isolated location is known for its crystal blue seas, fine white sands, perpetual sunshine, and a sense of peace. Water sports activities such as sport fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving are available. At Carrillo Beach you will find some magnificent marine settings. Swimming and hikes around the rocky platforms at low tide, when some marine life can be seen, especially in the little pools. 

Carrillo is a tiny fishing and farming town with a thriving tourist sector. Visitors can enjoy some excellent rest and relaxation here. There are few interruptions and noise is kept to a minimum. 

Getting to Guanacaste's Carrillo Beach: 

Drive north from San José to Puntarenas, then turn west to Liberia on the highway until you reach Limonal. Turn left at Tres Hermanas Restaurant and proceed to Nicoya via La Amistad Bridge. Once you've arrived in Nicoya, continue on the route to Samara, passing through Hojancha on your way to Carrillo Beach.

Taking the bus to Carrillo Beach:

Take a local bus from San José to Samara, which will take approximately 5–6 hours, and then a bus from Samara to Carrillo, which will take approximately 1 hour. To ensure that your seat is saved, we recommend purchasing your ticket a day ahead of time. 

Taking a plane to Carrillo beach

Air airlines offer daily flights between Juan Santamaria Airport and the airports of Samara or Carrillo. You can hire a car or take a taxi from here to Carrillo Beach, which is about 10 minutes away
