Danta beach is a white sanded beach with crystal blue waters and lush beauty, of less than 1 km in length, located in the Las Catalinas community in Guanacaste. Danta Beach is poised to become a preeminent international stand up paddle board destination. Danta beach has steep slopes and heavy surf so visitors should take precautions, especially when the tide is falling. Its waters are ideal for water sports, as well as bathing.

Danta beach also has a lush beauty of natural richness along its coastline and rocky headlands at the ends with steep and rough waves. In fact, the Pitahayas Islets, lie just off the coast and can be seen from the Danta beach to the west. Beyond them rises the Santa Catalina Island, which lies 4 kms to the southwest, near Salinas Point.

Getting to Danta beach in Guanacaste:

From San José

Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the highway to Liberia until you reach Belen. There, turn right and continue on the road until you get to Huacas. Once in Huacas, turn right towards Conchal and Flamingo for about 4.5 km (3 miles) until you reach an intersection. Follow the signs to Potrero Beach and continue for 8 km (5 miles) more, turn left and continue for about 50 m (165 ft) until you get to Danta and Dantita beaches parking lot. This route requires a total of 4 to 5 hours from San José.

From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)

Drive south to Santa Cruz, pass the DO IT Center and take the next exit to Sardinal on your right. Continue on the road following the signs to RIU Hotel. When you reach the intersection that leads you to the hotel, don’t turn, but continue on the dirt road for about 8km (5 miles) until you reach the Danta beach intersection. Follow this road for about 2 km (1 mile) until you reach the Danta and Dantita beaches parking lot.

By bus

Take a bus from the route San José – Huacas – Brasilito- Flamingo – Potrero, making the stop at Potrero or Flamingo beaches, which takes about 5 hours (Tralapa, 2221-7202 / 2680-0392). From Flamingo or Potrero you should take a taxi to Danta Beach or walk to it. From Flamingo the beach is located about 8 km (5 miles) and from Potrero about 6 km (4 miles). We recommend buying the ticket a day earlier to be sure your seat is saved.

Or you can also take a bus to San Jose – Santa Cruz (Alfaro-Tracopa, 2222-2666) or Liberia – Santa Cruz (La Pampa, 2665-5891) and and then take a bus Santa Cruz – Flamingo – Potrero (Empresa El Folclórico, 2680-3161), making the stop at Potrero or Flamingo beaches, which takes about 5 hours (Tralapa, 2221-7202 / 2680-0392). From Flamingo or Potrero you should take a taxi to Danta Beach or walk to it. From Flamingo the beach is located about 8 km (5 miles) and from Potrero about 6 km (4 miles).

By plane:

You can also take a flight from the Juan Santamaria Airport to the Tamarindo airport, either with Sansa or Nature Air airlines every day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Danta beach, which takes about 35 minutes.
